How the best animated short films are selected

Since 2016, Viborg Animation Festival has presented awards for animated short films. Each year, the festival invites a professional, international jury; with special expertise in animation and the art of filmmaking; to select the winning films in the different categories.

The evaluation process includes the jury meeting up at the festival in Viborg and watching the film. Based on a guideline of questions and suggestions for the conversation, the jury will discuss, argue for and against, consider and finally vote on who they will name the winner. The jury will then write down their reasonning in detail and notify a few select people on VAF’s Festival team, who will keep the winner’s name a close secret. Only during the VAF Awards will it be known to everyone, who are the winners of the different categories.

In 2025, the jury was:
VAF Best Short

Betina Husen, Ulla Hæstrup & Minna Floss

VAF Graduation
